Mr. Steve Duckworth

Managing Director / ERM Korea Ltd.

Steve Duckworth is the Chairman of the British Chamber of Korea and Managing Director of Environmental Resources Management (ERM)’s Korea office. ERM is the largest independent global provider of environmental, health, safety, EHS risk and social consulting services. Steve has been in Korea for six years, active in the EXCO for the past five years, and was involved in preparing the BCCK offering of broader services to British companies wishing to invest, trade, or establish a business in Korea. Prior to Korea, Steve was located in Hong Kong and Thailand.

Mr. Paul D’Arcy

Country Chairman / Shell Korea

Paul D’Arcy is the President of Shell Korea and Country Chairman of the Shell Companies in Korea. Paul has worked in a variety of roles in LNG marketing, business development, and venture management since he joined Shell in 1996. Prior to joining Shell, Paul was an economic policy adviser in the Australian Government. Paul holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics. He is married and has three children. Paul is also head of the Market Access Committee at the BCCK.

Mr. Daniel Fertig

Partner, Assurance / Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers

Samil PwC is the Korea member firm of PwC, and Korea’s largest professional services organization with over 3,500 employees. Daniel is a partner in the Global Client Services Team, responsible for providing a variety of cross-border assurance and transaction based services to multi-national companies. Daniel also leads Samil PwC’s UK Business Group, and is on Samil PwC’s Inbound Committee. Daniel transferred to Seoul in 2006 from PwC’s London office, and has since spent 3 years in Japan (Tokyo/Osaka), from 2009 to 2012, before returning to Seoul.

Mr. Sean Blakeley

Chief Executive Officer / BCCK

Sean Blakeley is the Chief Executive Officer of the BCCK. A 12-year resident of Korea, he worked as a director of business development with a Korean publishing company and was managing director of a British consulting company prior to joining the Chamber in 2015. Sean has also completed a master’s program at Seoul National University in International Relations & Political Economy as a government scholar and speaks Korean fluently. During his career, Sean has worked with companies across a broad range of sectors including consumer electronics, retail, consumer goods, and F&B.

Mr. Richard Southall

Managing Director / McLarens Korea

Richard Southall is the Managing Director of McClarens Korea, which is an employee-owned claims service provider and the only international loss adjusting company in Korea with a chartered loss adjuster. Richard celebrated 20 years with the McLarens Group in 2012. He has spent more than 15 years in Asia, including in Indonesia and the Philippines. He became McLarens Korea’s Managing Director in 2003 and is the company’s only expatriate loss adjuster. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters.

Mr. Yoo-Seok Hong

President / GSK Korea

Yoo-Seok Hong has held the position as President of GSK Korea since August 2014. He also served as General Manager of Lilly Korea (2007-2008) and Teva-Handok (2013-2014). His previous assignments in healthcare industry included Senior Director of Strategy, Emerging Market Business Unit and International Marketing Director at Eli Lilly in the US from 2003 to 2013. Mr. Hong also plays a role in serving on the board of directors at KRPIA, Korea Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (KPMA), and Korea Biomedicine Industry Association (KoBIA).

Mr. Graeme Salt

Headmaster / Dulwich College Seoul

Graeme Salt has been the Headmaster of Dulwich College Seoul since January 2015. He has enjoyed previous leadership and teaching roles in British international schools of Brazil (Sao Paulo), UK (London), China (Beijing) and Malaysia (Nusajaya), and educated at the British universities of Bristol (Biological Sciences), Exeter (Education), London (Science and Culture) and Bath (Education). His interests revolve around attempts at being a good father and husband, interesting travel (ideally by bicycle), sport in Korea and worldwide, cooking, BBC radio programmes and summers in west coast Canada.

Mr. Eric Thorpe

Managing Partner / Edge Communications

Eric is one of two founding Managing Partners of Edge Communications, Inc., a full-service corporate communications and public relations agency founded in 2008 which is affiliated with London-based Grayling, a public relations firm with 1,000 staff working in 53 offices across the world. Eric has held a variety of positions in Japan and Korea for the last 22 years. He is also the Seoul chapter leader of the alumni association of the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Mr. Mike McClure

Chief Representative / Herbert Smith Freehills LLP

Mike McClure is the Chief Representative of the Korea office and head of the Korean Disputes Practice. He is also an English qualified solicitor advocate. Prior to working in Korea, he worked in the firm’s offices in London, Dubai, Hong Kong and Moscow. Mike advised clients involved in international disputes, particularly in the energy, construction, infrastructure, transport and property sectors. He has represented clients before arbitral tribunals in a number of different countries and also the Courts of First Instance and Courts of Appeal in the UK and the Dubai International Financial Centre as well as the Hong Kong High Court.

Mr. Sanjay B. Sadarangani

Country Head of Global Trade & Receivables Fins / HSBC Korea

Sanjay Sadarangani oversees the the Trade Finance business for HSBC, which is the the largest provider of trade finance in Korea and has an on-the-ground team of 35 resources. Sanjay has been in Korea for almost one and a half years and also represents HSBC on the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea. Sanjay has been the Head of Business Development for HSBC’s Financial Institutions (Asia & MENA) Global Trade and Director, Private Banking, Global South Asian Diaspora at HSBC Private Bank. He holds an MBA from Duke University.

Mr. Manuel Alvarez

Country Manager, Korea / British Airways

Manuel Alvarez is the newly appointed Country Manager for British Airways in Korea. He served as commercial manager of Iberia Airlines, the Spanish air carrier under British Airways owner International Airlines Group, for Lebanon, Egypt and Algeria. He has worked in the sales department of British Airways and IAG. Manuel started his professional carrier in the airline industry in New York in 1998 after graduating from Boston University.

Mr. Tom Jeanes

Associate Director / CBRE Korea

CBRE is the largest commercial real estate services and investment firm in the world with over 450 offices operating in more than 100 countries. Tom is Associate Director of the Occupier Services team in Korea, providing strategic advice and leadership to businesses on all office leasing matters including renewal negotiations, relocations, expansions, and consolidations. Tom has ten years’ experience in the real estate industry having spent three years in London and six years in Hong Kong before relocating to Seoul in 2016. He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Mr. John Jungkyum Kim

Partner / Lee & Ko

John Jungkyum Kim is a U.S. trained and licensed attorney working on both corporate and finance matters and is a core member of the Insurance & Reinsurance Practice Group at Lee & Ko. He has accumulated more than 20 years of legal experience and specializes in insurance/reinsurance but also has significant expertise in other financial services, healthcare, hotels/resorts and casinos, technology, entertainment and media, tourism, and transportation industries for Korean domestic and foreign international clients.  In working with his clients, Mr. Kim has worked on matters involving regulatory, transactional, international trade, dispute resolution, employment and labor, and government relations and public affairs. During his legal career, Mr. Kim has counseled and supported clients and industries which include those connected to trade with the United Kingdom.

John Jungkyum Kim is a non-voting member of the Executive Committee.

Mr. Jeremy Vallance

Head of HR / SC Jeil Bank

Jeremy is the Head of HR for SC Jeil Bank (SC제일은행) and is a member of the Bank’s Management Team with overall responsibility for the people strategy of the Korean franchise of Standard Chartered Bank.  He has been in Seoul since 2015 and previously was based in Singapore working in a global role across the Bank’s network of 50 countries.  Jeremy has more than 25 years of experience across Europe and Asia and prior to joining the Bank he worked in the hi tech sector for Cisco Systems, based in India, having spent his earlier career with Arthur Andersen and Mobil Oil Company in the UK. Jeremy has a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Nottingham.

Mr. Martin Fryer

Director / British Council Korea

Martin Fryer is from Hampshire, England. He has worked for the British Council in Brazil, Turkey, Spain, Argentina and Pakistan. He has been Director of the British Council in Korea since September 2013. He oversees the entire portfolio of British Council work in Korea which includes work in higher education, English language teaching and assessment, arts and design, the creative economy, science and technology exchanges and the social economy. Martin is also head of the Charity Committee at the BCCK.

Mr. Mike Welch

Head of Trade & Investment / British Embassy Seoul

Mike Welch is the Head of Trade and Investment for the Department for International Trade, based at the British Embassy Seoul. Mike arrived in Seoul in June 2017. He joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in January 1999, filling a variety of roles both in the UK and overseas, before taking time out most recently to serve as the Programme & Communications Director for the UAE-UK Business Council, based in Abu Dhabi.
